I am excited to teach this seminar to help educate you on any questions you may have on learning more on the sport of powerlifting. We have helped hundreds of lifters prepare for competition over the years and wanted to put the info into a seminar for everyone to learn.
WHAT WILL BE COVERED?
Rules: We will go into depth on the rules of competition and the flow of how a meet is set up and run. We will primarily cover the rules of the USPA federation, but we also have working knowledge of a few other federations as well. We will discuss the:
- The rules of all 3 lifts
- Discuss the different classes and categories of competition
- Common mistakes for the squat bench and deadlift attempts.
- Platform Do’s and Don’ts
- Equipment lists
Meet Prep: The weeks leading up to the meet are crucial in your performance. We will discuss:
- The basics of peaking and de-loading before the meet.
- How to set basic numbers for your attempts on meet day, and discuss the weigh-in/Check-in process
The last couple weeks and days leading up to the meet can make or break you your experience and we will help give you a better understanding of how to approach meet day.
Meet Day: Meet day is the expression of months and months of dedicated focus and work. You want to show up prepared and have a great experience. We will talk about
- Understanding the basics of meet day nutrition do’s and don’ts.
- What to bring with you on meet day.
- How and when to warm up before your attempts
- Meet day etiquette

Who will be teaching it? It will be taught by Danny Sawaya, owner of Tucson Strength and Tucson Barbell Club. Danny has prepared hundreds of lifters over the years to compete in powerlifting. He is also referee for USPA Powerlifting Federation and certified USPA Coach.
